Leather Galore at Monika Chiang

Quietly tucked away at the corner of 26th street on 5th Avenue, the Monika Chiang sample sale is a leather paradise, but PETA’s worst nightmare. There were leather pants and leggings in a variety of colors ranging from standard neutrals to pastel pink and blue. There are also a variety of leather skirts and shorts to choose from in the same colors options as the leather leggings and pants.

A really cool white leather skirt with snake detailing was spotted for $55 (org. $650). The section of leather goods that were most frequented was the leather jackets. In the early evening, there was still an assortment of leather jackets in deep reds, pastels, and woven/leather combo in navy going for $100 (Org $750 – $995).  Leather dresses could be found in bright fuchsia and black for $75.

Be aware: There are no fitting rooms are this sample sale. I repeat.  There are no fitting rooms.

Many of the women trying clothes were huddled in a small group trying to obtain a glimpse of themselves in the only narrow mirror provided at the sample sale, while others sought solace in the corners.  Competition for mirror time was fierce. At one point, a few women had compiled a small hoard of Monika Chiang clothing and defiantly stood in front of the mirror while they tried on some clothes.

Tip: If you come to this sample with the intention of trying on clothes; do come in wearing leggings and a tank top.

The sample sale had a healthy section of denim jeans, button down shirts, blouses, and accessories.  A table at the center of the sale hosted a variety of bags for just $75 (Org. $250-$795). Another table boasted a bevy of stiletto pumps, stacked heel boots, flats, and edgy sneaker wedges. A third table has some small leather goods, and a shiny collection of jewelry to suit your edgy side ($20-$40). The final table possessed $200 leather beats for only $30, and a bin of lace undies and matching bras are going for $5 a pop.

Restocking is expected this Wednesday and the sale is will end this weekend on Sunday.
