The Faces of Facebook – Cool or Creepy?

Well, yesterday morning I was intrigued by a Yahoo! article about about a personal project called The Faces of Facebook, created by Creative Technologist Natalia Rojas.

The site, which upon entering closely resembles white noise in color; is a collections of approximately 1.2 billion Facebook users. You can select any area of the picture and zoom in for a closer view of individual Facebook profiles, all chronologically ordered. When you hover over a user’s picture you will see their name, profile picture, and “FACE #.”  The user’s “FACE #” represents the order in which all profiles were created. Clicking a user’s picture will allow you to see their full profile page on Facebook. You can log in to your Facebook account and either see your own or your friends’ “FACE #.”

The site also displays a counter of Facebook profiles being created around world in real time. Every time a visitor visits the site the number count of Facebook profiles is constantly increasing.

Yahoo! describes the the site as visually impressive, which I have to admit it is, but in the same breath I can’t help but think that this is a little eerie.

What do you think about The Faces of Facebook?Faces_of_Facebook
